Officials said that Priya had been living with the head constable in a live-in relationship. The accused, Ashish Pawar, is posted at Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj police station and is married.

On the night of the incident, the couple were hosting a party at their residence when a video call from the policeman's wife came through. Police sources said Priya reportedly became upset after seeing the call, triggering an argument between the two.

According to the preliminary probe, Priya picked up the head constable's revolver during the altercation and shot herself. Those present at the spot alerted the authorities and arranged for immediate medical assistance, but doctors could not save her.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) RK Gautam said the argument escalated moments before the shooting.

"The woman, aged around 25, had an altercation with the head constable during a party. She used Pawar’s licensed personal firearm to shoot herself in the head," Gautam told news agency PTI.

Following her death, Greater Noida Police registered a case and took the head constable into custody. His service weapon has been seized and sent for forensic examination to determine the exact sequence of events.

Police are also questioning witnesses who were present at the party and examining call records and CCTV footage from the housing society to establish whether there was any provocation or negligence involved.

Further investigation to ascertain how the firearm was accessed during a private gathering is underway.
