Govinda claims Karan Johar's Govinda Naam Mera is based on his alleged infidelity
Actor Govinda has criticised the 2022 film Govinda Naam Mera for allegedly mirroring his personal life and past marital struggles. Expressing deep displeasure over the plot's similarities to his own experiences, the veteran actor warned the filmmakers against using private lives for commercial entertainment.

Actor Govinda has expressed objections towards producer Karan Johar's 2022 romantic-comedy Govinda Naam Mera. He has claimed that the film is based on his alleged infidelity with wife Sunita Ahuja.
Govinda, in an interview with ANI, confessed that he didn’t appreciate the force fitting of his personal life into a film. He said, "Someone made a film on my name, Govinda Naam Mera. I think it was Karan Johar. In the story, the husband and the wife get into a quarrel because of the girlfriend. They start doubting each other. So, they try to force fit someone’s personal life into a film."
"I promise if we ever cross paths, I’ll give them the Rajinikanth treatment in public. No misbehaving please! I request with folded hands, jokes don’t look good every time everywhere," he added.
In Govinda Naam Mera, backed by Dharma Productions, actor Vicky Kaushal plays Govind Waghmare, better known as Govinda, a background dancer struggling to make it as a professional choreographer. His personal life is a mess; he is desperate to leave his wife, Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar), to build a future with his girlfriend and colleague, Suku (Kiara Advani). The roadblock to his divorce is financial—Gauri refuses to let him go unless he pays back the Rs 2 crore dowry she provided when they wed.
In a recent interview, Govinda's wife Ssunita Ahuja addressed the issue of aspiring female actors interacting with established stars, suggesting that these situations can become complicated. She stated that such aspiring actors often play a role in the personal challenges faced by public figures like Govinda. According to Ssunita, the allure of fame and the desire to break into the film industry can sometimes lead individuals to pursue relationships with well-known actors, making the environment especially challenging for married celebrities.
Govinda and Ssunita married in 1987 and kept their relationship under wraps for two years until the birth of their daughter Tina in 1989. Over the years, whispers about affairs and tensions have surfaced repeatedly, but Ssunita has consistently denied any plans of divorce.
