A touching story showing the swift response of Indian Railways staff during a mid-journey medical emergency aboard the Vivek Express left social media users praising the efficiency and compassion shown by railway personnel.

The incident came to light through a Facebook post shared by user Shubhangi Deshpande, who described how officials and a doctor quickly stepped in to assist her friend after she suddenly fell ill while travelling from Guwahati to Bhubaneswar.

According to Deshpande, four women were travelling together when one of them developed intense stomach pain at around 10:30 am. The group initially tried to manage the situation by giving her a painkiller they had on hand, but her discomfort continued, leaving them anxious and unsure how to access medical help during the journey.

They then approached the ticket collector (TC) for support. The official reportedly recorded their PNR and seat details on a handheld digital device and assured them that assistance would be arranged as soon as possible.

Roughly thirty minutes later, the TC returned and connected the passengers with a doctor via phone. The doctor spoke directly to the unwell traveller, evaluated her symptoms, and informed them that he would meet the train at the next station. The group later learnt that the TC had hurried across several coaches to coordinate the response and ensure the call could be arranged quickly.

Medical help was subsequently provided at New Jalpaiguri station, where a doctor briefly boarded the train, administered an initial dose of medicine, and handed over additional doses for later use. By the following morning, the passenger’s condition had improved, and she was reported to be stable.

In her post, Shubhangi Deshpande thanked the Indian Railways staff, the attending doctor, and the ticket collector, referring to them as “devdoot,” or angels, for their timely intervention. She also noted that the assistance was provided without any charge.

The post emphasised the growing coordination between digital systems and on-ground railway personnel in responding to emergencies. In recent years, Indian Railways has strengthened passenger support through helplines, real-time communication tools, and station-based medical services designed to ensure quicker intervention during health-related incidents.
