These are the 6 reasons you should visit India's cleanest city, Indore

Indore has been declared the country's cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2017 survey. One of the upcoming smart cities, Indore also has a history of resounding culture and art. And to recognise the grandeur, we have listed out some must-visit places of the city.

Rajwada

Indore is known for its magnificent Maratha architecture, the most popular among them being Rajwada. Built by the Holkars of the Maratha Empire, the seven-storied structure was erected about two centuries ago. Exhibiting a blend of Maratha styles, the palatial structure will leave spellbound. It also has a well-laid out garden, fountains and an artificial waterfall.

Lal Bagh Palace

This three-storied architecture, on the banks of River Khan, was once the residence of the Holkars.  One of the most stylish residences, the palace is decorated with prehistoric artifacts, Persian carpets, Italian marble columns, chandeliers, flying nymphs on the ceiling, stuffed leopards and tigers, to name a few. Besides a huge coin collection, there are Indian and Italian paintings and sculptures too. 

Kanch Mandir

Kanch Mandir or the Temple of Glass is a famous Jain temple, built by Sir Seth Hukumchand Jain, in 1903. Made entirely out of glass, the temple showcases aspects of Jainism through exquisite artwork on its glass panels. In the main Garbhagriha, there are idols of Trithankaras, flanked by mirrors on both sides thereby creating infinite reflections.

Bada Ganpati

This is the biggest Ganpati statue in the world. It measures eight metres in length and is made of a peculiar mixture of limestone, jaggery, bricks, and holy soil and water from the biggest pilgrimage centres of India. Among the other temples that draw tourists each year are the Annapurna Temple and Khajrana Temple. 

Hanuwanitya

Situated 150 km from Indore, beside the grand Indira Sagar Lake, Hanuwanitya offers a range of water sports to tourists. Hanuwantiya is now being developed as a water tourism destination. Madhya Pradesh Tourism also celebrates a month-long festival of water sports called Jal Mahotsav at this venue. 

Cuisine

Indore is known across the country for its delectable cuisine, especially poha and immarti. And your food expedition would not be compete without visiting Sarafa Bazaar. Believed to have been started a century ago, the bazaar doubles up as a jewellery during daytime and a street food market at night. Thousands of tourists pour in every time to gorge on poha jalebi, bhutte ki kees, malpua, khopra patties, malpua, among others.
