Born on October 15, 1984, in Ghaziabad, Swati Maliwal is an Indian activist and was the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women. She completed her schooling at Amity International School and then received a bachelor's degree in Information Technology from the JSS Academy of Technical Education.
Before becoming an activist, she was working at an MNC. She left her job at the MNC and joined an NGO called Parivartan.
She started her term as Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women in July 2015. She is the youngest person to hold the role of commissioner for women.
In 2018, she went on a hunger strike and demanded several things, including the passage of an ordinance requiring the death penalty for individuals who rape children under age 12. She even wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Swati Maliwal has also worked as the advisor to the Chief Minister of Delhi on public grievances.
On the personal front, Swati Maliwal was married to Aam Aadmi Party leader Naveen Jaihind but got divorced in February 2020.
