Sunny Deol

Ajay Singh Deol, better known as Sunny Deol, is an actor-turned-politician. He has acted in Hindi films, directed and produced too. He had acted in over 100 films and has received many accolades, including two National Film Awards for Best Actor and two Filmfare Awards.

Sunny Deol was born October 19, 1965, in Sahnewal village, Punjab, to Bollywood actor Dharmendra and Parkash Kaur. He has a younger brother Bobby Deol and two sisters Vijayta and Ajeeta. His stepmother is Hema Malini.

Sunny Deol made his debut opposite another debutante, Amrita Singh in Betaab (1983). He earned a Filmfare Best Actor Award nomination for his role in the film. His portrayal of an amateur boxer wrongly accused of his brother's murder in the 1990 drama film Ghayal earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

From 1992 to 1997, Sunny Deol acted in back-to-back hit films like Lootere, Darr, Jeet, Ghatak, Border and Ziddi. His first film as director was Dillagi (1999) starring himself, his brother and Urmila Matondkar.

His first hit in the 2000s was the romantic period action drama, Gadar (2001). Sunny Deol appeared on-screen with his father Dharmendra and brother Bobby Deol together for the first time in Apne (2007).

Towards the end of 2013, Sunny Deol acted in Anil Sharma’s action-drama Singh Saab The Great. The movie was a commercial success and achieved critical acclaim too.

Sunny Deol is married to Pooja Deol alias Lynda Deol and the couple have two sons, Karan and Rajveer. Sunny Deol joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 23, 2019. He won the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from the Gurdaspur constituency.
