Shruti Haasan, born on 28 January 1986, is a popular Indian actress and playback singer who works in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu cinema. Her father is actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan and her mother is actress Sarika Thakur.
She sang in films as a child artist and played a guest role in the Kamal Haasan-directed film Hey Ram (2003). She made her mainstream directing debut in the 2009 Hindi film, Luck. After this, Shruti Haasan appeared alongside hip-hop artist Blaaze in promotional videos for the movies Unnaipol Oruvan and Eenadu, for which she had composed music.
She made her Telugu debut in January 2011, opposite Siddharth in the fantasy-adventure film Anaganaga O Dheerudu. In mid-2010, director AR Murugadoss signed Shruti Haasan to star opposite Suriya in the Tamil action film 7aum Arivu. She played the role of Subha Srinivasan, a young scientist who attempts to re-activate the genes of a 5th-century Buddhist monk from Tamil Nadu Bodhidharma.
3 (Moonu), a Tamil film starring Dhanush, marked a turning point in Shruti Haasan's career. When the film was released in March 2012, critics reportedly said, "Shruti Haasan has come a long way." She made her debut in the American television industry in 2019 with a recurring role in Treadstone, an action-drama series based on the Bourne films.
Post a three-year gap from Indian films, she returned in 2020 with the short film Devi, followed by Yaara opposite Vidyut Jammwal and in the Amazon Prime anthology film, Putham Pudhu Kaalai.
Shruti Haasan’s younger sister, Akshara Haasan, is also an actress who works predominantly in Tamil and Hindi movies. Shruti Haasan is unmarried.
