Shobha Karandlaje, born on October 23, 1966, is a prominent Indian politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Hailing from Puttur in Coastal Karnataka, she began her political journey early, being actively involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from a young age. Her entry into politics was supported by the RSS, which provided her with initial guidance and support.
Karandlaje pursued her education, completing an M.A. in Sociology and a Master of Social Work from Open University, Mysore, and the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore University, respectively. She rose through the ranks in the BJP, serving in various capacities before being elected as an MLA from Yeswanthpur, Bangalore, in 2008. During the B. S. Yeddyurappa government, she held the portfolio of Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.
Currently, Shobha Karandlaje serves as the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare in PM Narendra Modi’s government. She is known affectionately as ‘Shobhakka’ by her supporters and holds the distinction of being the second woman Union MoS for Agriculture in India. She is also a close confidant of B. S. Yeddyurappa.
