Samantha Ruth Prabhu

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, earlier known as Samantha Akkineni was born on April 28, 1987. She works mainly in Telugu and Tamil film industries. Her father Joseph, a Telugu and her mother, Ninette Prabhu, is a Malayali. She was brought up in Chennai’s Pallavaram area. She is the youngest child of the family, with two elder brothers Jonathan and David.

Her acting debut came in Gautham Vasudev Menon's Telugu romance film, Ye Maaya Chesave (2010), for which she won a Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and a Nandi Award.

She followed it up by appearing in the music video for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 promotional song, Semmozhiyaana Thamizh Mozhiyaam, which was directed by Menon directed composed by AR Rahman.

Samantha is also the actress ever to win both the Filmfare Award for Best Actress-Tamil and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress-Telugu in the same year, for her performances in the films Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012) and Eega (2012).

In 2014, Samantha appeared in six films and returned to the Tamil industry. Her first release saw Samantha portray a dual role in the family drama film Manam. She also acted in Telugu films, Autonagar Surya, Alludu Seenu and Rabhasa in 2014.

Her Tamil film Anjaan, opposite Suriya, received negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office. Her other release, AR Murugadoss's action drama Kaththi, opposite Vijay, became the most profitable Tamil film of 2014.

In 2021, she performed her first dance number in Pushpa: The Rise alongside Allu Arjun in the song “Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava.” Her first 2022 film, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal received mixed reviews.

Samantha married actor Naga Chaitanya in 2017, who announced their separation in October 2021.
