Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami is an Indian international cricketer who is a right-arm fast bowler. He plays for the Indian national cricket team in all formats of the game. Shami represents Bengal in domestic matches and is part of an Indian Premier League (IPL) team. Known for his sensational performances in Test cricket, Shami is the fifth Indian fast bowler to take 229 wickets in the longest format of the game.

Mohammed Shami was born on September 3, 1990, in Sahaspur village, Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Tousif Ali, a farmer who was a fast bowler in his youth, took Shami to Badruddin Siddique, a renowned cricket coach in Moradabad. Here, his technique improved, and his reputation grew in domestic cricket.

He made his first-class cricket debut for Bengal in 2010. He waited for three years to join the Indian international team. Shami played his first One Day International (ODI) match for Team India on January 6, 2013, against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. He made his Test debut from November 6 to 8, 2013, against the West Indies in Kolkata, and his T-20 International debut on March 21, 2014, against Pakistan in Dhaka.

In March 2018, Shami and his family members were accused by his wife, Hasin Jahan, who filed a police complaint alleging domestic violence and infidelity. Shami was accused of domestic violence and involvement in match-fixing. Shami denied all the allegations, calling it a conspiracy against him. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) removed him from the national contract list following the charges. However, after an investigation, the BCCI cleared him of all charges and reinstated his national contract. He was included in Team India's squad for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Abhishek Banerjee Slams ECI Over Voter List Notices To Amartya Sen And Mohammed Shami

In West Bengal, a political storm has erupted over the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has accused the ECI and the BJP of targeting prominent figures, including Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, cricketer Mohammed Shami, and actor-politician Dev, by issuing them hearing notices. Banerjee claimed the exercise lacks transparency and insults the state's icons. However, ECI sources clarified that the notice sent to Amartya Sen was the result of a computer-generated error caused by a spelling mistake in his name. 'The incorrect spelling actually caused a mismatch in the computer system, which resulted in a computer generated notice that has been sent to him,' the report noted. The Commission confirmed that the Booth Level Officer (BLO) will resolve the discrepancy, and the Nobel laureate will not be required to appear in person. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari also dismissed the controversy as a technical glitch that should be addressed by the Chief Electoral Officer.

This special report focuses on the escalating controversy between senior Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and the BCCI's selection committee, headed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Shami is quoted in the bulletin as saying, ‘The Indian team did not communicate with me regarding fitness. I am not the one who should inform them about my fitness.’ The pacer has publicly questioned his exclusion from the upcoming tour of Australia, stating that if he is fit enough to play four-day Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal, he should be considered for the 50-over format.
