Mauritius

Mauritius is a beautiful island nation located in the Indian Ocean, situated to the east of the African continent. This country is renowned for its natural beauty, white sandy beaches, lagoons, coral reefs, and lush green mountains. Its capital is Port Louis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Mauritius on March 11, 2025, at the invitation of Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. During this visit, PM Modi is expected to sign several agreements to strengthen cooperation in capacity building, trade, and efforts to combat cross-border financial crimes (PM Modi Mauritius Visit).

People of Indian origin, whose ancestors arrived here as labourers in the 19th century form a significant portion of Mauritius' population. Indian culture, language, and festivals are an integral part of Mauritian culture. Diwali, Holi, and Ganesh Chaturthi are celebrated with great enthusiasm here.

The official language of Mauritius is English, but Creole, Hindi, French, and Bhojpuri are also spoken.

Popular tourist attractions in Mauritius include Grand Baie, Black River Gorges National Park, Ganga Talao, Le Morne Brabant, and the Sugar Museum and Factory (L'Aventure du Sucre).

PM Modi holds roadshow in Varanasi ahead of bilateral talks with Mauritius PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a roadshow in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, where he was greeted by a large number of supporters. The event was part of his visit to the city to host and hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam.  Modi and Ramgoolam are expected to hold discussions on crucial matters of bilateral cooperation, with particular focus on development partnership and capacity building. They will also discuss opportunities for expanding collaboration in health, education, science and technology, energy, infrastructure as well as in emerging domains such as renewable energy, digital public infrastructure and the blue economy.

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting Mauritius Prime Minister Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. Jaugnauth said it is a great honour to be a part of the summit. He said his country is looking to strengthen ties with the other member nations and come up with constructive solutions to several global issues. He also spoke about the inclusion of the African Union into the G20, hailing it as an admirable step by PM Modi. Praising India for its Chandrayaaan-3 success, the Mauritius Prime Minister said India is making global progress in all aspects. He also praised Prime Minister Modi’s stature at the global level.

Aditya L1 successfully performs 2nd Earth-bound manoeuvre: Isro

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) said early on Tuesday that Aditya L1, the country's first solar mission, successfully performed the second Earth-bound manoeuvre. The space agency's Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) carried out the operation. "The second Earth-bound manoeuvre (EBN#2) is performed successfully from ISTRAC, Bengaluru. ISTRAC/Isro's ground stations at Mauritius, Bengaluru and Port Blair tracked the satellite during this operation. The new orbit attained is 282 kilometres x 40,225 km," Isro shared the update on X.

Centre has sought 45 lakh more doses of Covaxin, say sources

The Centre has issued a 'Letter of Comfort' to Bharat Biotech for 45 lakh more doses of Covaxin vaccine, sources said on Tuesday. Out of those 45 lakh doses, the city-based vaccine maker will be supplying over 8 lakh doses of Covaxin to some of the friendly countries such as Mauritius, Philippines and Myanmar, free of cost as "good will gesture". Sources also said that the company will be dispatching 20 lakh doses of the earlier order in a couple of days.
