Born on January 9, 1974, to prolific Indian film writer and poet, Javed Akhtar and writer-director, Honey Irani, Farhan Akthar was raised in an environment where creativity and originality of thought were encouraged.
After establishing a production company named Excel Entertainment along with Ritesh Sidhwani in 1999, Farhan Akthar made his debut as a director with the coming-of-age comedy-drama film, Dil Chahta Hai (2001). The film won Farhan Akthar his first National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film along with Filmfare awards for Best Feature Film - Critics Choice and Best Screenplay.
Seven years after his dream debut as a writer-director, Farhan Akthar made his debut as an actor-singer in Rock On!! (2008). The film secured him a second National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film and a Filmfare award for Best Debut Performance.
His incredible success continued with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which was released in 2011. The film won him three Filmfare awards for Best Film, Best Actor in a supporting role and Best Dialogue.
Farhan Akthar followed this up by playing athlete Milkha Singh in the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), which garnered him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
