Born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, India, he is the son of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a renowned Hindi poet and Teji Bachchan. Sholay, released in 1975, was loved by audiences and critics alike for its engaging story, actor's chemistry and mass appeal, and still is considered an icon of Indian cinema today.

Dubbed as India's "angry young man" for his on-screen roles in Hindi films, he married actress and politician Jaya Bhaduri in 1973. They have two children, Abhishek Bachchan who is also an Indian actor and Shweta Bachchan Nanda who is an author, journalist and former model.
