Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday met those who were injured in the Hathras stampede, a senior government official said. The stampede at a religious congregation on Tuesday left 121 people dead and 28 injured. "The chief minister held a meeting with officials in the circuit house and met the injured in district hospitals," the official said. A team consisting of ADG Agra and Aligarh Divisional Commissioner has been constituted to inquire into the cause of the incident. The report is likely to be submitted on Wednesday, the government said. The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday registered an FIR against the organisers of the congregation, accusing them of hiding evidence and flouting conditions with 2.5 lakh people gathering for the event in which only 80,000 were permitted.

The death toll in the stampede at a religious congregation in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras has risen to 121, a senior official said on Wednesday. According to the Office of the Relief Commissioner, the number of people injured in Tuesday's incident stands at 28. According to a government official, only four of the 121 bodies remained to be identified. After the stampede, 21 bodies were taken to Agra, 28 to Etah, 34 were in Hathras and 38 in Aligarh, the official said. "Now one body each in Hathras and Aligarh and two in Etah remain to be identified. All bodies in Agra have been identified," the official told news agency PTI in Hathras.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra resumed in Aligarh on Sunday. Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, with whose party Congress inked an alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, will also join the yatra in Agra today. Notably, the yatra, which began in Manipur, will traverse 6,713 km, mostly on buses, and will cover 100 Lok Sabha constituencies, and 110 districts in 67 days, before culminating in Mumbai on March 20 or 21.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi joined the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad. According to party functionaries, from Moradabad, Priyanka Gandhi will be travelling to Fatehpur Sikri via Amroha, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, and Agra.
