He added, “When you really stop and pause and think about the last 50 years, it makes your heart sing. It really does. I promise some celebration."

Tim Cook hints at retirement amid Apple’s 50th anniversary

Tim Cook succeeded Steve Jobs as Apple CEO in 2011. Since then, Cook has helped the Cupertino giant grow multifold in market value, from roughly $350 billion to over $4 trillion today. However, at 65, it appears that Cook is planning to retire soon.

During the discussion, Cook reportedly said, “I spend a lot of time thinking about who’s in the room five years from now, 10 years from now. I am obsessed with this — who’s in the room 15 years from now.”

Previous reports indicate that the Apple CEO will likely remain on the company’s board as Chairman. It is believed that John Ternus, Apple’s head of hardware engineering, is likely the frontrunner in the race to replace Tim Cook as the new CEO.

Though Cook is not the only one considering a change. In the past few months, Apple has seen major senior figures leave the company including – COO Jeff Williams, Environmental Affairs Head Lisa Jackson, and General Counsel Katherine Adams.

As per the report, Tim Cook addressed these retirements, stating that these were carefully orchestrated and “not surprises.” He further added, “You know, when people get to a certain age, some are going to retire. This is kind of a natural thing.” However, Cook did not former design executive Alan Dye or ex-AI chief John Giannandrea.
