<p><span><b>A</b></span>s photography nears its 200th anniversary, Museo Camera in Gurugram presents TOUCHING LIGHT: A Prelude to the Bicentennial of Photography (1827&ndash;2027). Curated by Museo&rsquo;s founding director, Aditya Arya, the show (Aug. 23-Sept. 29) celebrates India&rsquo;s rich analog photography tradition.</p><p>&ldquo;I come from the analog times, when photography was not only about the image but about the experience,&rdquo; says Arya. &ldquo;The darkroom was a place of alchemy—film chemists, developer trays, the smell of chemicals, and the red glow that revealed images slowly, like secrets surfacing from silence.&rdquo;</p><p>The exhibition brings together rare historical photographs, including Carte de Visites from Bourne & Shepherd Studio, albumen prints from the People of India series, and the Beauties of Lucknow series. Complementing these are analog silver prints, chemigrams and diapositives by 28 leading practitioners, including Arya, Akash Das, Bandeep Singh and Mahesh Bhatt.</p><p>&ldquo;The scratches, the grain, the uneven tones; these are not flaws but fingerprints of presence. They remind us that photography is not just a machine&rsquo;s record of light, but a dialogue between the world and the maker,&rdquo; observes Arya. Twenty people, including women and children, were left stranded 75 feet above the ground after an amusement ride malfunctioned at an exhibition held at Codissia Grounds in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when around 20 visitors, including three children, were stuck on the ride, prompting police and the Fire and Rescue Department to respond. Using a sky lift vehicle, the rescue team worked for roughly 45 minutes to safely bring everyone down. The incident has raised safety concerns, following a similar case in Chennai last year where visitors were left stranded on an amusement ride, highlighting the need for periodic inspections and strict safety checks of such attractions.
