Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday alleged that Rahul Gandhi attempted to turn a verbal spat into a physical confrontation inside Parliament, claiming the Leader of Opposition appeared “not in his senses” during the incident.

Speaking to the media, Bittu said the confrontation took place as he was entering the House. “When I was about to enter the House, it’s possible he (Rahul Gandhi) may have been upset with me. But he is leader from such a big family,” he said.

Bittu alleged that Gandhi continued to make “irrelevant remarks” even inside Parliament. “I will also tell the Speaker that he was speaking nonsense outside and inside the House as well,” he said.

A sharp war of words broke out between Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and his former aide and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu in Parliament premises on Wednesday, as tensions flared ahead of the day’s proceedings.

According to Bittu, the situation escalated when Gandhi suggested they shake hands. “He thinks he is the king of the country and that everyone will do as he says. I told him I will never shake hands with a traitor,” Bittu said.

He accused Gandhi of being “the biggest enemy of Sikhs and Punjabis.” “There is no city left where Sikhs were not killed or women were raped. He even fired bullets inside the Golden Temple in front of the Guru Granth Sahib,” Bittu alleged.

Bittu further claimed that Gandhi was frustrated over not coming to power. “He is very disturbed because he is not coming to power,” he said.

Describing the alleged physical confrontation, Bittu said, “When I refused to shake hands, he was about to manhandle me. Venugopal ji held him back. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also stopped him.”

Bittu went on to allege that Gandhi was intoxicated. “He seemed intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. He was not in his senses. Even a street goon does not behave like this,” he said.

The Union Minister claimed that Gandhi followed him inside Parliament and made remarks about his political future. “He told me that I would come back to his party. I would rather die,” Bittu said.

Bittu said he did not want an apology from Gandhi. “I do not want him to apologise because even the word ‘apology’ would be insulted,” he added.

He also said Gandhi’s behaviour changed after he left the Congress. “I was good for you as long as I was with you. Now that I am in the BJP, you dislike me,” Bittu said.

Reiterating his stance, Bittu said, “I have my Guru’s turban on my head. I am from Punjab. How can I bow before you?”

He further claimed that Gandhi tried to follow him again but other MPs stopped him. “You can see it in the video,” Bittu said.
