Lucky Ali backs Arijit Singh on quitting playback: Make your own road
Lucky Ali has supported Arijit Singh's decision to quit playback singing, and said that "it's not a loss." Ali suggested that something must have snapped for Singh to take this stand, emphasising the importance of expressing oneself away from the music industry's existing constraints.

Singer-songwriter Lucky Ali has backed Arijit Singh's decision to retire from playback singing. Ali mentioned that he supports Singh as he chose to express himself outside of the constraints imposed by the music industry.
Ali, in an interview with PTI, said, "You've got to go stand in the musician's shoes to understand what he's really feeling. And if he's taken a step to that effect, something must have snapped within him. I totally agree with Arijit when he made the stand. And it's not a loss."
"He's definitely going to sing and he's going to express himself, but he's not going to do it with the circumstances that were there before. You've got to make your own road like how we've done; we made our own road," he added.
In January 2026, Singh surprised his fans by announcing his retirement through an Instagram post. He captioned, "Hello. Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I'm happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey (sic)."
The singer later reflected on his decision to quit playback singing in his X post. He wrote, "There isn’t just one reason for this; there are multiple factors, and I have been contemplating this for quite some time. Ultimately, I have mustered the necessary courage (sic)."
"One of the reasons is quite straightforward: I tend to lose interest quickly, which is why I frequently alter the arrangements of my songs and perform them live. So, here’s the truth: I’ve grown weary. I need to explore different music to thrive (sic)," He added.
