Sikkim, initially an autonomous region, became a part of India in 1975. The Sikkim Lok Sabha constituency was established in 1977, encompassing all four districts of Sikkim. Over the span of 11 Lok Sabha elections, the Sikkim Democratic Front has consistently emerged as the dominant force, securing victory six times in a row. Additionally, a by-election held in 1985 witnessed the Sikkim Sangram Parishad (SSP) clinching victory. Presently, the Sikkim Democratic Front continues to maintain a stronghold on this seat, a trend that has endured since 1996. With a population of approximately 648,000, Sikkim boasts 370,769 registered voters, comprising 179,753 females and 191,010 males. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Indra Subba of SKM emerged victorious with 166,922 votes, defeating DB Katwal of SDF, who garnered 154,489 votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Prem Das Rai of the Sikkim Democratic Front secured victory over his opponent Teknath Dhakal of the Sikkim Revolutionary Front by a margin of 41,742 votes.
