The Election Commission of India, on March 16, announced that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1. The results are scheduled to be declared on June 4.
Voting for the initial phase is set for April 19, followed by subsequent phases on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The tallying of votes will occur on June 4.
In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also unveiled the polling schedule for Assembly elections in four states.
According to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the decision to conduct the polls in seven phases takes into account various factors such as geographical conditions, festivals, exams, and other considerations.
An estimated 96.8 crore individuals are eligible to exercise their voting rights in the forthcoming elections, which will be held across more than 12 lakh polling stations.
