Bomb threat at Delhi schools, searches underway

Bomb threats targeting several prominent schools across Delhi triggered emergency responses on Monday, the latest in a spate of similar incidents that have repeatedly disrupted educational institutions in major Indian cities.

At least nine schools reportedly received bomb threat emails between 8:30 am and 9:00 am: Loreto Convent in Delhi Cantonment, Venkateshwar Global School in Rohini, Cambridge School’s Srinivaspuri and New Friends Colony campuses, The Indian School in Sadiq Nagar, CM Shri School in Rohini, DTEA School in INA, Bal Bharti School in Rohini, and Manav Sthali School in New Rajinder Nagar.

Delhi Police was alerted and fire teams and bomb disposal squads were immediately deployed. Students and staff were promptly evacuated from the premises. Searches are currently underway, police said.

The threat email, accessed by India Today, stated: "Delhi will become Khalistan. In memory of Afzal Guru. There will be an explosion at 1:11 pm."

The email, signed 'Khalistan National Army', also warned of an attack on Parliament later this week. "There will be a blast in Parliament on February 13th at 1:11 pm. Punjab is Khalistan," it read.

Meanwhile, in Bihar, the Patna Civil Court also received a bomb threat this morning, prompting authorities to issue an alert and order the evacuation of the court premises. Security checks are underway there as well.

This comes amid a surge in hoax bomb threats that have increasingly become routine in metros, stretching emergency services and causing widespread alarm among parents and school administrators.

Earlier, five schools in the national capital received bomb threats via email on the morning of January 29. Those threats were later declared hoaxes after sweeping searches by security agencies.

Schools targeted in that incident included Loreto Convent in Delhi Cantonment, Don Bosco School in Chittaranjan Park, and Carmel Convent campuses in Anand Niketan and Dwarka.

A day before that, on January 28, the Dwarka court complex also received a bomb threat that was subsequently found to be false.

Delhi Police officials previously said investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the repeated threats, warning that those responsible for hoaxes would face strict action.
