Tokyo 2020: Everybody is talking about Covid-19's impact on Olympics, says Boria Majumdar

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is all set to get underway in Japan's capital city but its the Covid-19 scare that is dominating the headlines and the main topic of discussion everywhere in Japan.

The pandemic had forced the first-ever postponement of the Olympics last year which is why the Games have retained the Tokyo 2020 name despite being played in 2021.

Japan is now bracing for a tough 17 days as fears of an outbreak of Covid still looms large in the country despite not allowing any spectators for the showpiece event this year.

Massive protests have taken place all over Japan, asking for the cancellation of the Games but Tokyo 2020 organisers and the International Olympics Committee (IOC) are confident that the Games will not prove to be a super-spreader of the virus in Japan.
