Why use fake hackathon to discredit EVMs?

They set out to prove that Indian voters have been betrayed by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). In the end, the only one left heartbroken was the Foreign Press Association, one of the organisers of the event that bombed with the unsubstantiated claims made by 'cyber expert' Syed Shuja.

FPA, the first and oldest association of foreign journalists in the world, was left red-faced after Syed Shuja failed to deliver on the claim that he could hack Indian Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). So, why use fake hackathon to discredit EVMs?
