A dramatic hostage crisis unfolded in Mumbai on Thursday after Rohit Arya, an employee of the RA Studio in Powai area, held 17 children and two adults hostages. The police reacted swiftly, shooting the hostage-taker before rescuing all the hostages.
Arya died in hospital after being shot in the chest during the 35-minute operation. The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation.
It was later learnt that Rohit Arya worked with the state government for the "Majhi Shala, Sundar Shala" (My School, Beautiful School) project.
However, after his contribution went unrecognised, and he was allegedly sidelined, he launched an agitation against the government in 2024. Later, Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar is said to have met him and assured him of a solution to his problem, but nothing concrete was done to resolve his concerns.
Was it the unchecked rage of Rohit Arya or his unpaid dues that triggered the Mumbai hostage crisis? Panelists debate on News Today.
