Mamata Banerjee's Oxford speech disrupted; Top Court to hear Yashwant Varma's transfer case

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s address at an Oxford institution was interrupted as protesters questioned her on the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital and other state-related issues. She was delivering a lecture on ‘Social Development’ when around six audience members stood up, raised posters, and disrupted her speech.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna assured bar associations that their plea to reconsider Justice Yashwant Varma’s transfer would be examined. The demand arose after a large sum of cash was found at his residence. The assurance came following a meeting between the CJI and presidents of six bar associations.
