PDP, NC and Congress join hands in Jammu and Kashmir

The Congress is set to join hands with Jammu and Kashmir's two main parties to form a ruling alliance, some five months after the Bharatiya Janata Party walked out of the previous coalition government, beginning a period of Governor's rule.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC), who are rivals, will join the Congress in this effort. In an 87-member assembly, the three parties combined would have 55 lawmakers (PDP: 28, NC: 15, Congress: 12).
