Create jobs instead of providing free ration: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday (December 9) called on the Centre to prioritise employment generation over solely distributing free rations under the Food Security Act. The court expressed concerns that the continued large-scale distribution of free rations could prompt state governments to issue ration cards as a means to appease citizens, knowing that the responsibility of supplying grains lies with the Centre.
