Exclusive: US Commerce Secretary pushes for lower India tariffs and to 'get America in'

Speaking exclusively at the India Today Conclave on Friday, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasised the necessity for India to lower its high tariffs on American goods to foster a stronger bilateral relationship. He advocated for a comprehensive, large-scale trade agreement that addresses all key aspects, moving beyond product-specific negotiations. Lutnick stressed that India's current tariff structure requires reassessment to enhance ties between New Delhi and Washington. He also highlighted the importance of opening up India's agricultural market and engaging in direct bilateral discussions to reshape trade dynamics. Lutnick expressed confidence that, given the strong relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump, such a significant trade agreement is achievable.
