The government on Thursday released new rules to regulate social media, online streaming and digital content platforms, and warned that "double standards of social media will not be acceptable". The government's warning went out to all social media platforms operating in the country.

Addressing a press conference, Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad spoke about some of the strict oversight mechanisms for social media companies, including a robust grievance mechanism and measures for speedy redressal.
