Onion, tomato, potato prices to be fixed to benefit farmers: Shivraj Singh Chauhan

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chauhan said on Sunday that the government has prepared a policy under which a model price for essential crops like onion, tomato and potato will be fixed.

Chauhan, who is on a campaign trail for the BJP in poll-bound Maharashtra, said that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will set the prices at 50 per cent higher rates than the cost the farmer bears. Also, the difference between the market rates and this fixed price will be credited to the farmers' accounts. He said the Centre and state governments will bear the cost of this difference in prices in equal parts.
