The Supreme Court on Tuesday pronounced a verdict against same-sex marriage in India, handing over the matter to the Parliament. The set of 21 pleas were filed by petitioners through senior advocates including Mukul Rohatgi, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Raju Ramachandran, Anand Grover, Geeta Luthra, KV Viswanathan, Saurabh Kirpal, and Menaka Guruswamy. The petitioners  stressed the equality rights of the LGBTQIA community, deeming marriage an important part of their lives.
Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, who was heading the bench pronouncing its verdict on 21 pleas seeking legal validation for same-sex marriages, said the court can't make law but only interpret it and it is for Parliament to change the Special Marriage Act.
