Meghalaya BJP leader Bachu Marak quits party, says non-secular ideology unacceptable

Another Meghalaya BJP leader, Bachu Marak, has resigned from the party over the Centre's notification regarding ban on sale of cattle in animal markets for slaughter.

Bachu Marak's resignation comes days after BJP's West Garo Hills district president Bernard Marak resigned from the party over 'beef ban'.

Bachu Marak said that beef eating is part of "our culture and tradition", and he cannot compromise with the sentiment of the Garos.

"As a Garo, it is my responsibility to protect the interest of my community. Beef eating is part of our culture and tradition. Imposition of BJP's non-secular ideology on us is not acceptable," Bachu Marak said after resigning from the BJP on Monday night.

"I resigned from the BJP as they are dishonouring my culture. This is an anti-Christian party," Bachu Marak was quoted by ANI.
