Kerala gold smuggling case: Senior bureaucrat M Sivasankar suspended

Kerala govt has suspended senior bureaucrat M Sivasankar from services pending inquiry in the gold smuggling case. The decision was taken based on the report by the inquiry committee.

Sivasankar was earlier summoned by the Customs as part of the ongoing investigation into the gold smuggling case where gold, weighing over 30 kg and valued at around Rs 15 crore, was seized.

Sivasankar was the principal secretary to CM and was removed from the position for his alleged involvement with Swapna Suresh.

Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken Sarith, one of accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, in its custody. Sarith was in the custody of the Customs Department.

The NIA has completed the searches that were carried out at the premises of the arrested accused.

Meanwhile, summons will be sent out to other suspects in the case in the next few days.
