Islands renamed to gain popularity: Mamata Banerjee on naming of 21 islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees

As the Netaji showdown gets bigger, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that the renaming of islands in Andaman and Nicobar was done to merely "gain popularity". She added that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had himself named the islands as Shahid and Swaraj Dweeps when he visited the islands in 1943.

This after Prime Minister Narendra Modi today named 21 islands of the Union Territory after Param Vir Chakra awardees.
