9 dead as fire breaks out at multi-storey building in Kolkata

Nine emergency responders have died in a fire that broke out at a multi-storey building in Kolkata on Monday evening. West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose confirmed that four firefighters, two RPF jawans and one Kolkata police ASI have died in the blaze.

The New Koilaghat building on Kolkata's Strand Road, where the fire broke out on Monday, houses offices of the Railways. Kolkata Commissioner of Police Soumen Mitra, Fire Minister Sujit Bose and Joint CP (crime) Murlidhar were among the senior officials seen monitoring rescue operations on the spot.
