In an exclusive interview with India Today, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury addresses the controversy over bringing a rescued stray dog to Parliament, the grand old part party's defeats in polls, EVM issues and more.
On being asked, is there going to be a privileged motion moved against her for calling the MPs in Parliament 'dogs', she said, "I didn't call any MP a dog. It would be very insulting to the dogs. All right, because there are traits and qualities in a dog that human beings don't have. We don't have that kind of loyalty, that non-judgment, the kind of unconditional love and devotion that a dog gives. So I don't think human beings are fit to be called dogs. The dogs would be very humiliated. So, I didn't call anyone a dog."
Chowdhury also reaffirms her claims about the 'casting couch' culture in Parliament, stating it's a widespread issue and linking it to the #MeToo movement. The discussion covers the Congress party's internal dynamics, the role of Rahul Gandhi, friction between the 'old guard' and new members, and concerns regarding the Election Commission and EVMs. Additionally, she criticizes the government over IndiGo flight chaos, alleges gender bias in how her actions are judged, and discusses the political landscape in states like Bihar ahead of the Winter Session.
