BMC goes on demolition spree after Kamala Mills fire tragedy

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Saturday began a demolition drive at the Kamala Mill compound in Lower Parel, where a massive fire killed 14 people yesterday.

The BMC has drawn criticism for not proactively dealing with illegal structures. But today, the corporation razed many such constructions.

BMC additional commissioner AB Jarad said such work was conducted regularly. Asked when it was last done, he said the civic body should be left alone to do its work.
