Tripura (west) District Magistrate Sailesh Kumar Jadav has been suspended by the state government. The order for his suspension comes days after a video of Yadav stopping a wedding midway in a bid to enforce Covid-19 norms went into wide circulation on social media.
Earlier this week, DM Sailesh Kumar Yadav appeared before a committee to explain his actions. The panel, comprising two senior IAS officers, was formed at the direction of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
"It is my duty to enforce law and order and to prevent the spread of Covid-19. I stand by whatever I did that night," Yadav had told the committee.
