India Today Exclusive: The government has made daring decisions in terms of investments and disinvestment, says Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday spoke to India Today TV at The Budget Roundtable.

One of the questions addressed to Nirmala Sitharaman was, “One of the fears, since the time Rahul Gandhi used the suit-boot ki sarkar jibe, is that the government then felt if we do what may help us sell, government company like AirIndia, it may lead to the Opposition attacking us, saying this is the government of the suit-boot walas, and therefore create a political problem?”

To this, she said, “I don't think that was the consideration for which we did not go ahead with many of the disinvestments; the CC had given its clearance. We had every right to go ahead and disinvest. It is not that suite-boot ka matter would hit at us. We have taken quite a lot of daring decisions. The government has made daring decisions in terms of investments and disinvestment."
