Bringing the perpetrators of 26/11 to justice
More than a year after the terrorist attacks on Mumbai, India still continues to be led up the garden path by Pakistan on action against Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed (in pic) and the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Let's hope we get to plug the security loopholes in 2010 by punishing those who wrought untold miseries on Mumbai and India's psyche.
Peace with Pakistan
With its support to terror holding up peace talks, Pakistan has to be brought around to understand that apart from hurting India, it's patronage of fundamentalist forces has brought it to the verge of being a failed state. Will Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Yousaf Raza Gilani understand India's compulsions and pull their country back from the brink? The next year seems to hold the answers.
Bhai-bhai for the cameras alone?
India and China saw their unified might bring some sense into the Copenhagen Climate Summit. Let's hope in 2010, the two countries deal with the outstanding bilateral issues between them, the Chinese claims on Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh, in a responsible fashion without resorting to hype and muscle flexing.
The plight of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees
LTTE chief Prabhakaran is dead. But will India ensure the Sri Lankan government delivers its promise on devolution of powers to Tamils in Sri Lanka and rehabilitate them in 2010? If not, the UPA government might find itself marginalised in the rhetoric-spewing political discourse of the Tamil mainland.
