US President Donald Trump dropped a shocker at a rally in North Carolina and stunned the audience by turning the spotlight on his wife, First Lady Melania Trump’s undergarments.
Recounting the FBI’s August 2022 raid at his Mar-a-Lago residence, the President claimed that agents went through Melania’s closet, noting that her “panties (were) folded perfect, wrapped so perfect."
“I think she steams them," he added to loud cheers from the crowd.
While criticising the conduct of the federal agents, the President repeated his claim that the search, which was part of an investigation into the handling of classified documents after he left office, was unjustified.
US authorities have said the search was carried out following legal authorisation.
MAKES BIG CLAIMS ABOUT US ECONOMY
Earlier in the address, Trump spoke about the US economy, saying inflation had eased and crediting his administration with job creation and wage growth. He said steps were being taken to reduce costs for American households and improve economic conditions.
Trump also referred to efforts to lower prescription drug prices, saying his administration was focused on making medicines more affordable.
DEFENDS TARIFFS, DOMESTIC MANUFACTURING
During the rally, Trump defended his administration’s tariff policies, arguing that duties on imported goods were necessary to protect American manufacturing. Referring to North Carolina’s furniture industry, he said tariffs were intended to revive domestic production and bring jobs back to the state. He said reducing reliance on imports remained a key objective of his trade policy.
PUSHES FOR REPUBLICAN SUPPORT AHEAD OF MIDTERMS
Trump also used the rally to urge voters to back Republican candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. He expressed support for GOP leaders in North Carolina and called on supporters to help secure electoral victories.
Video footage from the rally, including Trump’s remarks about Melania Trump’s belongings, has since circulated online and been shared by multiple media outlets.
