The Interior Ministry said initial reports indicate that a teenager armed with a knife entered the medical university dormitory and attacked students residing there, stabbing several individuals.

“The attacker resisted arrest, during which two police officers were stabbed. Furthermore, the suspect also inflicted bodily harm on himself,” Interior Ministry spokesperson Maj Gen Irina Volk told the RTVI.com web portal.

Authorities said the suspect was detained following the attack. The extent of injuries sustained by the victims and the attacker was not immediately clear. An investigation has been launched into the incident, and a probe is currently underway by the Investigative Committee.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow has said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in touch with Russian authorities. Officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan are travelling to Ufa to assist the injured students and coordinate further support.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic at the hostel. Ren TV quoted witnesses as saying “there was blood all around” after the attack. Video footage aired by local media showed emergency services rushing the injured to hospital in ambulance vehicles.

The incident has raised concerns among international student communities in the region. Russian authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the stabbing or whether the suspect had any prior connection to the victims.

Further details are awaited as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and question those present at the scene.
