BLOOD MOON
VS
SUPER MOON
There are a few different types of unusual full moons.
Like - blood moons, super moons, blue moons, and harvest moons, and others.
"
These full moons are especially bright and large because they're closer to Earth than your typical lunar sighting.
What's a Blood Moon?
When the Moon is completely covered by Earth’s shadow it will darken but doesn’t go completely black.
This full moon occurs during a total lunar eclipse and radiates red or orange hues.
When this happens, the only light that reaches the Moon's surface is from the edges of the Earth's atmosphere.
A super moon occurs when a full or new moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to the Earth.
What's a Super Moon?
"Super moon" is actually just a nickname for what astronomers call a perigean full moon.
