Kapil Sharma-Sunil Grover's mid air fight to Pehredaar Piya Ki ban: 10 telly controversies that shocked us

From Kapil Sharma-Sunil Grover's mid air fight, Pehredaar Piya Ki going off air, to rape and molestation charges on TV stars, 2017 was a year of controversies in the TV industry.

1. Kapil Sharma-Sunil Grover's mid air fight:  King of comedy Kapil Sharma made headlines for the mid-air ruckus that he created on a flight. The entire TKSS crew was on their way to Mumbai from Melbourne, when the unpleasant incident took place. After the incident, Sunil along with other TKSS members like Ali Asgar, Chandan Prabhakar and Sugandha Mishra left the show. Later, Kapil apologised to Sunil on Twitter. After Sunil and Ali's exit, TKSS lost its sheen and also experienced a major dip in the ratings. Eventually the show was pulled off air with a promise to return with new vigour.

2. Pehredaar Piya Ki ban: Sony TV's Pehredaar Piya Ki had been mired in controversies since its inception. It showed the marriage of a 9-year-old prince Ratan with an 18-year-old girl Diya and came under the scanner after it showed a first night sequence and a honeymoon sequence between the kid and the teenager. An online petition addressed to I& B minister Smriti Irani was filed on change.org thereafter asking for a ban on the show. The show was then asked to change its prime time slot from 8:30pm to 10:30pm. But the makers ultimately decided to take it off air. The decision to scrap the show was a last minute call taken collectively by the channel and the makers. Now, the show has been revamped and is currently aired as Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya.

3. Piysuh Sahdev rape case: TV actor Piyush Sahdev, who was last seen in Beyhadh as Samay, was arrested on November 22 on allegations of raping a 23-year-old aspiring actress, on pretext of marriage. Medical reports of Piyush, who was arrested under IPC section 376 suggest that he is guilty of rape and a chargesheet will soon be filed against the actor.  

4. Mandana Karimi filed a domestic violence case against husband: Bigg Boss 9 contestant Mandana Karimi, who got married to Gaurav Gupta in January, 2017, accused husband Gaurav Gupta of domestic violence and filed for divorce. Later, the actress dropped the domestic violence case and opted for an amicable settlement.

5. Swami Om arrested on theft charges: BB 10 contestant and the self-proclaimed godman, Swami Om was arrested in a case filed by his brother. His brother had accused him of stealing bicycles along with some documents from his shop nine years ago. Swami Om, who was one of the biggest troublemaker of Bigg Boss 10, was kicked out of the show for misbehaving with fellow contestant in January.

6. Domestic violence case against Sanjeeda Shaikh and her family: A domestic violence case, under section 125 of CrPC, was filed against TV actress Sanjeeda Shaikh and her family by her sister-in-law Zakerabanu Zakir Hussain Bagban, according to reports. Sanjeeda's sister-in-law accused her husband,  that is Sanjeeda's brother, Anas Abdul Rahim Sheikh of physical abuse. However, Sanjeeda and her family filed a petition that states that claims made by Zakerabanu were false.

7. Actor Anuj Saxena surrendered in graft case: Indian television actor Anuj Saxena, who was charged with a graft case, which also accused senior bureaucrat B K Bansal, surrendered on February 16. According to the CBI, Saxena had allegedly played a direct role in bribing Bansal to ensure that he does not order an SFIO inspection against his company on charges of illegal collection of Rs 175 crore from 24,000 investors, diversion of funds to companies abroad and not filing returns on time. The actor was granted bail on March 3.

8. Shilpa Shinde accused Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai producer of sexual harassment: TV actress Shilpa Shinde filed an FIR against the producer of the show, Sanjay Kohli, for sexual harassment. In the said FIR, the actress had claimed that Kohli often tried to get intimate with her and called her hot and sexy. The actress even accused Kohli of threatening her that he would throw her out of the show if she refused to get intimate with him.

9. Parth Samthaan molestation case: TV actor Parth Samthaan, who rose to fame with Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan was accused of molestation by a 20-year-old model. An FIR was registered under section 354 A of IPC with Bangar Nagar police station. However, the actor denied the charges and hinted at Vikas Gupta for defaming him.

10. Bobby Darling filed domestic violence case against husband: Bigg Boss season 1 contestant Bobby Darling aka Pakhi Sharma filed an FIR against husband Ramneek Sharma for domestic violence. Bobby, who had undergone a sex-change surgery in 2015 tied the knot to Bhopal-based businessman, Ramneek in 2016. Reportedly, Bobby fled from her house in Bhopal to Delhi and filed an FIR with the Delhi Police against her husband, accusing him of domestic violence and unnatural sex. She also filed a complaint of dowry harassment against Ramneek, his mother and brother.
