CSK or MI? Kumble, Lee, McCullum light up Dugout Debate ahead of IPL 2019 final

Former Australia cricketer Dean Jones and New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris led Select Dugout teams in the Dugout Debate hosted by India Today TV consulting editor Rajdeep Sardesai on the eve of Indian Premier League 2019 final.

Team Deano, headed by Jones, also had legendary India spinner Anil Kumble and former Australia pace sensation Brett Lee. On the other hand, former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and Kings XI Punjab coach Mike Hesson joined Team Scotty as the two teams shed light on the winning prospects of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will face each other in the final of IPL 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. Both teams have won three IPL titles each and the winner of Sunday's final will have all the bragging rights.

Dean Jones opened the proceedings in the powerplay of the lively Dugout Debate hosted by Rajdeep Sardesai. Anil Kumble and Brett Lee followed while Brendon McCullum opened the debate for Team Scotty.

Both the teams came up with a lot of numbers and date to instantiate their claims. Ranging from Chennai Super Kings' powerplay issues to predicting spinners' outcome in the big final using Rashid Khan's stats in Hyderabad, there was plenty of analysis in the show.

The Dugout Debate, much like quite a few nail-biters in IPL 2019, went to the Super Over after both the teams were tied on 24 points each.

Team Deano won the Super Over by coming up with the most number of right answer for 12 questions that were put for breaking the deadlock.

Narendra Modi Slams Congress In Kerala, Labels It 'Muslim League Maoist Congress'

In this special report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches a scathing attack on the Congress and the CPI(M) during a rally in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Addressing the political landscape, Narendra Modi stated that the Congress 'has adopted positions that are more communist than those of the Maoists and more communal than that of the Muslim League.' The Prime Minister branded the opposition as the 'Muslim League Maoist Congress,' accusing them of engaging in appeasement politics and lacking a clear development agenda for the state. The report highlights the BJP's strategy to position the NDA as a viable third alternative in Kerala, traditionally dominated by the LDF and UDF. Narendra Modi further raised issues of alleged corruption, citing the Sabarimala gold theft and irregularities in co-operative banks, promising accountability if the BJP is voted to power. While the Left dismissed the remarks, the Prime Minister's speech signals the BJP's intent to breach the southern barrier and challenge the established political order in Kerala.

Poli Saha Reports: Fresh Snowfall Disrupts Life In Kashmir And Himachal Pradesh

On this Special Report, Poli Saha highlights the severe disruption caused by fresh snowfall across North India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The reporter notes that 'Operations at the Srinagar airport were hit hard as snowfall forced the cancellation of at least 26 flights.' While the valley appears pristine, the heavy snow has grounded flights, blocked key mountain roads, and led to the closure of schools due to safety concerns and freezing temperatures. The report mentions that tourist hotspots like Gulmarg recorded up to 24 inches of snow, while Shimla experienced its first snowfall of the season. Authorities are currently working to clear runways and restore connectivity as the cold wave intensifies across the region. The programme explores the dual nature of the winter spell, balancing the scenic beauty of the white expanse with the logistical challenges faced by residents and travellers in the higher reaches.

Anshul Avijit and RP Singh Clash Over Rahul Gandhi's 'Dead Economy' Remark

On this Special Report, India Today's Akshita Nandagopal moderates a heated debate between Congress National Spokesperson Anshul Avijit and BJP Spokesperson RP Singh. The discussion centers on Rahul Gandhi's controversial claim that India is a 'dead economy.' Anshul Avijit defends the statement, asserting, 'The economy has been systematically being destroyed and killed by this government, beginning with demonetization.' He cites falling net FDI, lack of private investment, and poor rankings on the hunger and human development indices as evidence of a 'disastrous sign.' Conversely, RP Singh dismisses the claims, highlighting India's status as the world's fourth-largest economy and noting that 'almost 25 crore people have been brought out of the poverty line.' Singh points to massive infrastructure spending, robust banking, and self-employment schemes as proof of a thriving growth story. The debate explores contrasting interpretations of India's macroeconomic data, per capita GDP, and the impact of government welfare schemes amidst global economic turbulence.
