Australian Open 2026 Day 4 Highlights: De Minaur, Zverev advance, Carlos Alcaraz into Round 3

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev has been made to work hard by France’s Alexandre Müller at John Cain Arena. After taking the opening set and appearing firmly in control, the German saw the match swing as Müller fought back to claim the second.

The momentum, however, is beginning to tilt back Zverev’s way—he has secured an early break in the third set and now leads 6–3, 4–6, 3–1 as he looks to reassert his authority.. 

Jasmine Paolini is currently out on court in second-round action, facing Poland’s Magdalena Fręch at the hard-court major.

The No. 7 seed has her sights set on a deep run in Melbourne, especially with her Australian Open record yet to go beyond the fourth round.

This match represents another key step as Paolini looks to break new ground at Melbourne Park.

Mirra Andreeva has made her way into Round 3 of the Australian Open having beaten Maria Sakkari in straight sets. She first sealed the first set with a perfect 6-0 bagel. However, Sakkari had an improved performance in the second set, where she managed to break Andreeva's serve once. However, it was not enough for her to challenge Andreeva, who won the second set 6-4 and progressed to the next round.

Eighth seed Mirra Andreeva is on fire at Margaret Court Arena. 

She begins her second-round match by bagelling Maria Sakkari. 

Sakkari, ranked 52, has had a tough few years on the tour. She failed to make it past the third round in any of the Grand Slams last year.
 

Third seed Alexander Zverev is in action against Alexandre Muller of France. 

Zverev will be hoping to win this in straight sets and ensure he doesn't spend a lot of time on the court before the second week. 
 

Well, Carlos Alcaraz was lucky enough to play golf with Roger Federer before his second-round match. 

And here's what the Spaniard has to say about the Swiss great's golf skills. 

"As beautiful as his tennis," when asked how Federer plays his golf. 

Was he surprised? 

"I’m not surprised either. Everything he does, he does with style. His swing is really beautiful. He plays really well — he’s only been playing golf for about two years, and his level is incredible for that time.

"I’ve been playing for five years and he already beat me, so yeah… that hurts," he said.

Carlos Alcaraz eases into the third round. Well, he was pushed to the tie-breaker in the first set, but the Spaniard, who is still searching his maiden Aus Open win, beats World No. 102 Yannick Hanfmann. 

Alcaraz seems to have enjoyed that little test. The fans at Rod Laver Arena are thrilled. 

That was better from Carlos Alcaraz. He powers through the second set 6-3 after having been dragged to the tie-breaker in the first. It's tough way back for Yannick Hanfmann, who has put on a fine show so far.  Can Alcaraz close this out in straight sets or does the German has another push in him?  

A 57-minute demolition. 

10th seeds Yuki Bhambri and Andre Goransson defeat Austrlian wildcards James Duckworth and Cruz Hewitt 6-3, 6-4 in men's doubles first-round match. A top show from Indo-Swedish pair. 

With Cruz, the son of legendary Lleyton Hewitt, playing, the crowd was supporting the local wildcards. But, Yuki and Gorransson did well to hold them off. 

Yuki is back in the Round of 32 of men's doubles at the Australian Open for the first time in 12 years.
