India vs Sri Lanka 5th Women's T20I Highlights: India complete 5-0 sweep with 15-run win

5-0! India cap off a brilliant 2025 for women's cricket with a thumping clean sweep against Sri Lanka. The visitors seemed to be in the chase and were 100 for two at one point. Hasini and Imesha provided some fight with fifties but then the visitors just crumbled in the end. India will be happy to start the T20 World Cup preps on a high and with some impressive performances. Now they head off to join their respective WPL sides for a month as the competition gets underway on January 9. Till then, let the celebrations continue in Trivandrum. 

And that should be the game here as back to back wickets have sealed the game for India. First was run out that saw Kaushani get dismissed and then while looking for a big shot, Harshitha falls. It has been how things have gone for Sri Lanka in this series as they continue to crumble under the pressure of a chase.

The chat with Harmanpreet works as Sree Charani nails the perfect yorker. Hasini's valiant knock is over and India are edging closer to the win.

The fielding has been far better as Sri Lanka aren't getting any of the big shots away in this contest at the moment. Just when we say that Hasini is given a full toss by Sree Charani and it raises away to the boundary. That's followed by a six and Harmanpreet Kaur needs to have a word with her bowler now. 

Vaishnavi joins in on the party with her pace bamboozling Kavisha, who is too early into her shot and sees the ball hit the stumps. India are well in control and Hasini will be the wicket they will chase to ensure that the win is sealed.

Deepti Sharma strikes and she becomes the player with most wickets in Women's T20Is. Nilakshika tries to shuffle across the stumps and gets hit straight in front of the stumps. She goes for the review and it is in favour of India. Hasini remains the key player for the visitors as India are slowly claiming control of the contest once again. 

Just as we predicted, Amanjot comes on and gets the big wicket fo Imesha Dulani. This is exactly what the visitors wanted to avoid and now they will have to rebuild yet again. The signs are good as there is dew on offer and she uses the pace from Amanjot for a much-needed boundary.

A couple of boundaries and singles help Imesha to get to her first T20I fifty off 38 balls. She has come in and delivered from the No.3 spot with great support from Hasini at the other end. India need a wicket and it will be interesting to see if Harmanpreet will turn to Amanjot Kaur at the moment. 

IND-W vs SL-W, 5th T20I: Sri Lanka (86/1 in11 ov). Hasini (32*), Imesha (50*).  

Imesha comes down the track and gets hit on the pads. Vaishnavi convinces her captain to go for the DRS and it shows that the impact is umpire's call. That is what saved the Sri Lankan batter here as Vaishnavi bowls a fine over, conceding just four runs. 

 IND-W vs SL-W, 5th T20I: Sri Lanka (69/1 in 9 ov). Hasini (26*), Imesha (39*).  

A poor delivery at the end sees Vaishnavi concede a boundary to end a tidy over. India are looking for a spark and need a way to end this partnership, which gets to 50 in just 33 balls. Should Harmanpreet throw the ball to Shafali for a wicket. She did that in the ODI World Cup and it delivered a fine moment. Not a bad option. 

For now, Sneh Rana is keeping a tight line and not allowing any width at the moment. And just as we say it, a boundary comes in.

Hasini and Imesha are taking on the Indian bowlers, getting two boundaries each in the last two overs. They start the Sneh Rana over with a boundary and there is a loud appeal off the second ball as it strikes Imesha on the pads. They need to keep the foot on the pedal in order to chase this target down and get a win

A stunner from Deepti Sharma. The wide line at Chamari Athapaththu has worked as the Sri Lankan skipper falls into the trap and sends it straight to Deepti, who takes a brilliant catch. India have been sensational with their line and length and have gained the early control in this game.

Deepti Sharma opens the bowling and right away, hits the pads of Hasini Perera. The dew seems to be less today as compared to the last game and the ball is keeping a bit low than usual. A stump to stump line being followed by Deepti here as she isn't giving any freebies at the moment.

After Harmanpreet Kaur’s departure, Arundhati Reddy provided a spectacular late flourish, blasting 27 off just 11 balls to give India the finishing boost they needed.

She targeted Malki Madara in the final over, sending her down for 20 runs, including three fours and a towering six.

Despite the heavy finish, Sri Lanka won’t feel entirely out of the contest. The pitch remains very batting-friendly, giving them a real opportunity to chase down the total and avoid a series whitewash.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s entertaining innings comes to an end at 68 off 43 balls, laced with nine fours and a six. Kavisha Dilhari claims the key wicket, but not before the Indian captain had showcased her wide repertoire of strokes.

She departs in a twist of fortune—attempting to rock back and pull, she completely misses the ball, which sneaks through her legs and crashes into the middle stump.

Had it not hit the stumps, it could easily have been an LBW. A superb knock ends, and Sri Lanka begin to claw back into the game.

Rashmika Sewwandi has finally broken the 61-run partnership, claiming the wicket of Amanjot Kaur, who made a lively 21 off 18 balls.

Amanjot had just smashed a huge six on a good-length delivery right at the stumps, sending it soaring over long-on for maximum. But on the very next ball, her innings comes to an end.

Sewwandi delivers another good-length ball in the same slot, and Amanjot goes for the big shot again, aiming over long-on but fails to get proper contact. The ball goes straight to the deep fielder—what a fine, entertaining innings from Amanjot comes to a close.

Harmanpreet Kaur has really stepped on the gas, taking the attack straight to Sri Lanka's leading T20I wicket-taker, Inoka Ranaweera.

Ranaweera starts with a front-foot no-ball and Harmanpreet sends it flying over wide mid-wicket for four. She comes down the track, gets right to the pitch of the ball, and whips it away—couple of bounces and it races to the ropes. Back-to-back boundaries for the Indian captain!

She follows it up with a lofted drive, slightly mistimed, but her immense power carries the ball over long-on for six. Even though she gets beaten in the flight, she still goes through with the shot, sending it sailing over the ropes. What a display of strength, timing, and sheer dominance from Harmanpreet!

Harmanpreet Kaur has brought up a brilliant fifty off just 35 balls—a spectacular knock from the Indian captain. India also cross the 100-run mark in the 15th over, setting a solid platform for the death overs.

Now it’s all on Harmanpreet to accelerate, and she does so with authority, dispatching back-to-back fours off Chamari Athapaththu, who unfortunately spills another catch.

Amanjot Kaur has also settled in well, moving into double figures as the pair look to capitalize in the final overs.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur shares a heartfelt message for G Kamalini, the India U19 captain, who looks thrilled receiving her debut cap.

A truly proud moment for the teenager, even if she would have hoped to contribute a bigger score on her international debut.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur have chosen to steady things after the fall of Deepti Sharma, opting for a measured approach in the middle.

Sri Lanka have managed to keep things tight, with the last two overs from Malki Madara and Inoka Ranaweera yielding just seven runs.

That said, with Harmanpreet well set and Amanjot settling in, it may not be long before the pair look to shift gears and start finding the boundaries.
