India vs USA live: Horrors of 2016 coming back!

The horror of 2016 and 2021 has come back to haunt India as they lost their opening fixture of the previous two editions of the T20 World Cup hosted by them. In 2016, it was New Zealand who thrashed India in Nagpur as the spin duo of Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi ran through their batting order. In 2021, it was Shaheen Afridi in 2021, who ran through their top order to help Pakistan win their first ever fixture against the arch rivals in World Cups. It seems as if the horror has come back to haunt India again in the opening fixture as USA are giving them the run for their money.

This is sensational from the USA. Leg-spinner Mohsin Mohammad has had the ball on a string today. 2.4 overs. 6 runs and a wicket. Rinku Singh hits one straight into the throat of the long-on fielder, dismissed of 6 off 14. 

Suryakumar Yadav had spoken about the Indian mentality, saying the team would go all-out aggressive not just in bilaterals, but also in the ICC events. 

But, against the USA, India went into the shell in the middle overs. 

Suryakumar and Rinku Singh added 26 runs for the fifth wicket and it came in 34 balls. India should have counter-attacked in this phase, knowing there was Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel still waiting in the wings.

IND vs USA live: Who is Shadley van Shalkwyk?

Well, Shadley van Shalkwyk has silenced the home crowd. He picked up three wickets in the last over of the powerplay, dismissing Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube. 

Here's a bit about Shalkwyk. 

Shadley van Schalkwyk is a South African-born all-rounder who has become a pivotal figure for the United States national cricket team since his international debut in April 2024. A left-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler, the 37-year-old veteran took a "leap of faith" by moving from the South African domestic circuit—where he was a mainstay for the Knights and Free State—to the U.S., where he rose through the Minor League (Seattle Thunderbolts) and Major League Cricket (Los Angeles Knight Riders) systems.
