India vs New Zealand Highlights: Dube's heroics in vain as New Zealand win by 50 runs
Visakhapatnam ,UPDATED: Jan 28, 2026 23:04 IST
India (IND) vs New Zealand (NZ) Live Score: The fearless approach is clearly not working for India with New Zealand's spinners making it a nightmare for India's batters in Vizag.

IND vs NZ, 4th T20I Live Updates
Hello and welcome to India Today's live coverage of the fourth T20I between India and New Zealand from Vizag. Akshay Ramesh is on the ground and he is giving us the live updates from the game today.
23:04 IST:
That's all, folks! New Zealand finally have some teeth in the game and a win by 50 runs against this Indian team is something to be proud of. The Kiwis have one more game left before they begin their preparations for the mega event and so do India. The 5th and final T20I will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, the 31st of January. It should be another cracker of a game as we might get a glimpse at the combination of the Playing XI that might be used by both sides in their opening World Cup fixtures. The first ball will be bowled at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT), but as usual, you can join us sooner for the build-up. ADIOS. TAKE CARE.22:58 IST:
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Tim Seifert is the Player of the Match for his fiery knock of 62 off just 36 balls up top. Tim says that they decided to take the bowlers on early and sometimes you can get a bit lucky with the top edges. Adds that Jasprit Bumrah got him with a beauty in the last game but feels that if you get him away on the first ball, things can be a bit easier. Mentions that they want to put that pressure on the opposition bowlers early on because that's the nature of T20 cricket. Adds that they have to keep the T20 World Cup in mind and if the pitches are anywhere close to the ones in this series, they have to score big runs.23:01 IST:
The captain of New Zealand - Mitchell Santner says that the way they started in the Powerplay is exactly what India have been doing to them throughout the series. Adds that against this Indian batting unit, even 200 doesn’t really feel safe. Mentions that they didn't want batters to go into a shell after being bowled out for 153 in the last game. Believes that there is no better preparation than playing against quality opposition like India, and with a couple of players set to come in for the final game, the focus is firmly on getting roles sorted and clarity within the group. Explains that the surface was a bit tacky, and when bowled slower through the air, there was turn on offer. Reckons that wickets in the Powerplay make life much easier for the spinners.23:01 IST:
The Indian captain - Suryakumar Yadav says that they purposely played 6 batters and 5 proper bowlers to challenge themselves, so they are not too displeased by the outcome. Adds that they have batted really well so far and it was a good challenge to go after a big target, and it's all good learning in the end. Further mentions about the positives and mentions the knock of Shivam Dube but admits that 50 runs is a big margin and they will try to bounce back stronger.22:51 IST:
Time for the post-match Presentations...22:51 IST:
Let's recap the first innings - India opted to field first on a pitch that looked absolutely flat and with the dew coming into play later on, it made all the sense. However, New Zealand took a leaf out of Abhishek Sharma's book and Tim Seifert came out all guns blazing. The Kiwi openers put on 71 runs in the Powerplay without getting out and that set the tone for the rest of the game. The innings did start to simmer down a bit in the middle phase but Daryl Mitchell re-ignited things at the death and took his side to a formidable score of 215. On the bowling front, none of the Indian bowlers were spared early on, not even Jasprit Bumrah. However, both he and Arshdeep Singh came back strongly to pick up a wicket and the hosts started to just crawl their way back in the first innings. However, the likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Harshit Rana couldn't quite get their lengths right and went for plenty as India conceded a heavy total.22:47 IST:
A quick word from Matt Henry. He says that coming here and playing against a very strong side, the focus was on continuing the good stuff rather than searching for answers after defeats. Believes that this win says a lot about the group. Adds that confidence is a huge part of success, and having belief in the process makes a real difference. Says that it was pleasing to put together a complete performance, especially the way the team scrapped and fought through key moments. Mentions that the wicket of Abhishek Sharma was a massive one, as he has shown just how dangerous he can be. Highlights the fielding effort, and he feels that converting the half chances make all the difference. Reckons that assessing the conditions is crucial. Further says that there will be overs where you go for runs, but the key is to keep fighting and keep believing. Shares that coming into this series, it was important for him to get overs into the legs.22:49 IST:
A meek day out with the bat for India - Even with 216 needed for the win, India started as the favorites in the chase, simply because of what we had seen earlier in the series. Their spearhead with the bat, Abhishek Sharma, went for a golden duck and the top order never looked settled. Sanju Samson failed to grasp another golden opportunity but Rinku Singh showed promise of filling the gap at number 4, if needed. Shivam Dube was the one standout and he hit the ball as clean as anyone tonight. His knock of 65 from just 23 balls was the highlight of what was rather an underwhelming chase from India.22:44 IST:
Stepping up - Life is all about stepping up in the key moments and so far in this series, the Kiwis weren't quite able to achieve that. However, the case is different tonight as they were on it from the get-go with both bat and ball. Matt Henry dismissed Abhishek Sharma on the very first ball of the chase and that set the ball rolling. Jacob Duffy then pulled off a fine return catch to dismiss the other in-form batter and after that, they kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. The visitors did face some stiff resistance from Shivam Dube but once he was dismissed, they wrapped things up rather quickly. In terms of bowling, it was an all-round effort but the skipper, Mitchell Santner, led the wickets with 3 to his name and the pacers bowled particularly well.22:33 IST:
End of India's dominance - New Zealand wrap up a dominant performance in style and get their first win of this five-match T20I series. The series might be long gone but this win will do wonders for the confidence of the Kiwi players as they look to put their best foot forward ahead of the T20 World Cup. The hosts looked unbeatable in the first three games but they have been handed a thumping here and this will give the team something to ponder upon as they too look to tweak a few things ahead of the mega event in home conditions.22:30 IST:
18.4: Jacob Duffy to Kuldeep Yadav, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! That is it for the game. Duffy spots Kuldeep backing away, and he follows him with a well-directed short ball, aimed at the badge of the helmet. Yadav gets his hands high to pull. He gets into an awkward position and takes his eyes off the ball. It comes off the gloves and lobs behind towards the keeper, Tim Seifert, who makes no mistake. New Zealand win by 50 runs!22:33 IST:
Amar Panicker says
That's a wrap in Vizag
As I said earlier, it was a bad day at the office in India. Things that could go wrong did go wrong. That being said, India could have done itself a favour by batting first and giving itself a different challenge altogether. Then again, it's all in hindsight and this would not be one that affects their confidence one bit.

18.3: Jacob Duffy to Ravi Bishnoi, Duffy bowls it on a back of a length at 128.8 kph, on middle. Ravi swings ungainly across the line in front of square for a run.22:28 IST:
18.2: Jacob Duffy to Kuldeep Yadav, Pushed across the left-hander, on a good length. Kuldeep runs it down to deep third with an open bat face. Ish Sodhi slides in the deep and cuts it off. He slips while releasing the throw but it does not cost any extra runs.22:28 IST:

17.5: Mitchell Santner to Jasprit Bumrah, OUT! CAUGHT! Third wicket of the night for the Kiwi skipper. Santner bowls a flighted delivery, full and around the off pole. Bumrah gets down on a knee and goes for the hard sweep. He is unable to roll his wrists over the ball and the ball drops on him. The ball goes straight up off a top edge and Ish Sodhi does the rest on the edge of the ring at short fine leg.22:25 IST:

Wickets are falling like a house of cards right now. Jasprit Bumrah is in at number 10 for India.22:22 IST:
16.5: Ish Sodhi to Arshdeep Singh, OUT! TAKEN! Expertly held by Mitchell Santner! Sodhi pushes it through, on middle. Not all that short to hang deep in the crease. Arshdeep walks across the stumps and has a swipe across the line. A top edge is found and it goes towards the vacant mid on region. Santner turns around and goes after it. He keeps his eyes on the ball all the way through and takes the catch close to his chest. Two wickets in the over for Sodhi.22:24 IST:

IND vs NZ Live: Santner shows how its done
It has been a clinical performance here from the visitors and the captain, Mitchell Santner, is the one leading the way in terms of the bowling. He was the one who showed that there is some turn on offer and led the way to build up the pressure and get the big-hitters out quickly.
22:21 IST:
16.4: Ish Sodhi to Arshdeep Singh, Out comes the googly, on a length, outside off. Arshdeep gets down on a knee and attempts the slog sweep but is beaten as the ball goes over the blade.22:20 IST:
The next batter is Arshdeep Singh.22:19 IST:
16.3: Ish Sodhi to Harshit Rana, OUT! CAUGHT! End of a scratchy stay for Rana. Cleverly bowled by Sodhi. He spots Harshit stepping out and he fires it full and wide. Rana reaches out to lay some bat on it. Gets it off the outer half and it lobs to short third, where Rachin Ravindra takes a dolly. India are now 7 down for 157, needing 59 runs from 21 balls.22:19 IST:

Harshit Rana backs away and slams the ball straight down the pitch. Henry does extremely well in his follow-through to get down and get a right hand on it. The ball flicks the fingers and hits the stumps at the bowler's end with Dube backing up well outside his crease. Dube has to walk back for 65 (23) and Henry is absolutely pumped.22:15 IST:

The substitute fielder, Jacobs, runs across to his left and puts in a big dive, flicking it back in. The fielder from short fine leg gives him good company and throws it back to the keeper who whips off the bails. The batters had stopped as they thought it was a boundary and replays do confirm the same.22:13 IST:

IND vs NZ live: Vizag crowd goes 'Dube, Dube'
This is a sensational six-hitting show from Shivam Dube. He has dispatched both spin and pace, reading length wonderfully welll.
The Vizag crowd goes 'Dube, Dube', knowing he is the last real hope left in the case.
Ish Sodhi looked jaded after that 29-run over.
Jacob Duffy, the tall pacer, didn't have much success either as Dube dispatched him for two sixes to bring up his fifty in just 15 balls.
Third fastest T20I fifty for India after Yuvraj Singh's 12-ball 50 and Abhishek Sharma's 14-ball fifty. Something about Indian left-handers and their effortless six-hitting ability.

IND vs NZ live: Huge cheers for Jasprit Bumrah in Vizag
Jasprit Bumrah replaces Arshdeep Singh and the pacer gets huge cheers from the crowd.
"Bumrah, Bumrah" chants ring aloud here.
The superstar Indian fast bowler needs to do some damage control here as New Zealand have raced to 45 in just 4 overs.
Harshit Rana got a bit defensive after that assault from Tim Seifert. It appeared as if he was not trying to take wickets, but limit the damage.
Why go to slower ones when the ball is still new? The young man needs to learn quickly.

IND vs NZ: Relief for Conway
That boundary offers Devon Conway a brief release, but at the other end Tim Seifert is in full destruction mode, tearing into the Indian attack. India remain wicketless, and the frustration is beginning to show as Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana have both been unable to break through, allowing New Zealand to tighten their grip on the powerplay.

IND vs NZ: Arshdeep pulls it back
This is the over India desperately needed. Arshdeep Singh may not have picked up a wicket, but he conceded just four runs and hit his lengths perfectly, never allowing Devon Conway to free his arms.
Conway now needs to start finding the boundary; otherwise, the pressure could quickly shift onto Tim Seifert at the other end.

4th T20I in Vizag live: Slower balls from Harshit travel the distance
Harshit Rana tried to swing the ball early on in his first over. Tim Seifert tonked one into the stands despite a hint of swing.
The ball is coming onto the bat nicely in Vizag.
Harshit resorted to slower balls as early as the first over.
But, they weren't effective.
From the looks of it, India might be chasing in excess of 200 today.
Keep in mind, this is the same ground where Kolkata Knight Riders posted 272 after batting first in IPL 2024.

IND vs NZ: Seifert tees off
Not great signs for India early on. While Devon Conway has taken his time to settle in, Tim Seifert has thrown caution to the wind, playing his shots fearlessly and allowing the Kiwis to make full use of the powerplay so far.

Tim Seifert is living a charmed life as he survived twice in the first over. Although he hit three fours on the trot, he could easily have been out twice had two of his leading edges not fallen in no man's land. Nevertheless, the Kiwis will be happy that he's still there, batting and off the mark.

PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta is pitchside. He starts by saying that the pitch being used today is right in the center and the square boundaries are 65 meters on either side, with the straight boundary being 74 meters. Former Kiwi pacer, Simon Doull, joins him and says that it looks like a belter of a pitch with an even covering of straw grass on it. They both reckon that the pitch is rock hard and the team batting first will have to get plenty of runs as the dew will also come into effect later on.18:42 IST:
The captain of New Zealand - Mitchell Santner says that the dew has already started to settle in, which could make things increasingly difficult later in the evening for the bowlers. Acknowledges the quality of this Indian team and believes that they need to be on the ball from ball one. Mentions that this looks like a good batting wicket and they will look to put a big total on the board. Santner says the group is gradually coming together, with Finn Allen set to join the squad soon. He adds that James Neesham is still not well and remains unavailable for selection. Informs that they have made one change with Zakary Foulkes coming in for Kyle Jamieson.18:43 IST:
The captain of India - Suryakumar Yadav says that they will bowl first and adds that they saw a lot of dew last night while practising. Adds that it is crucial to repeat the good things they have done in the past and entertain the crowd. Mentions that they have one change as Arshdeep Singh comes in for Ishan Kishan, who has a bit of a niggle, and Axar Patel is still recovering, so the batters will have to take a bit more responsibility.18:43 IST:
