First all-civilian SpaceX crew launches into space | In Pics

SpaceX’s first private flight streaked into orbit in the wee hours of Thursday with two contest winners, a health care worker and their rich sponsor, the most ambitious leap yet in space tourism.

It was the first time a spacecraft circled Earth with an all-amateur crew and no professional astronauts.

The crew will circle the Earth for three days at an altitude of over 500 kilometres above Earth, higher than the Hubble Space Telescope.

According to SpaceX, the four-member crew will partake in first of its kind health research initiative to increase knowledge on the impact of spaceflight on the human body.
